José Gomes Ferreira has a Degree in Sociology, issued by the Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa (ISCTE; Lisbon, Portugal), and a Master's Degree in Communication, Culture and Media technologies, by the same institute. He has a Doctorate in Social Sciences, issued by the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa (ICS-ULisboa; Lisbon, Portugal). In this institute, he incorporates the team of Observa - Observatório de Ambiente, Território e Sociedade (Environment, Territory and Society Observatory). He is currently a post-doctorate researcher at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa and professor at the Programa de Pós-graduação em Estudos Urbanos e Regionais, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (Natal, Brazil), in which he incorporates the research group SEMAPA - Socioeconomia do Meio Ambiente e Política Ambiental (Environmental Socio Economy and Environmental Politics) and the research group GEPPEDERN - Pesquisa sobre comunidades Tradicionais Pesqueiras e Desenvolvimento (Research on Traditional Fishing Community and Development ) His main research topics are water issues, in aspects such as the access to the resource and the social and climatic vulnerability in the context of the Brazilian Northeast.
