BIO

João Guerra holds a PhD (2011) and an MA (2005) in Social Sciences from the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa), and a BA in Sociology from Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon (1998). Since 1998, he has been engaged in research in the fields of environmental sociology, environmental education, sustainable development, climate change, governance, and environmental justice, contributing to several national and international research projects and publications. He has taught in higher education at ICS-ULisboa and Iscte-IUL in areas directly related to sustainability, climate change, and environmental sociology. He is currently Assistant Professor at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), where he teaches several subjects and is the director of the Master's in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. He has been a visiting professor in Brazil, lecturing in MA and PhD programmes in Political Sociology, Agricultural Sciences, and Regional Development, with a focus on environmental sociology. Beyond academia, he was a member of the Eco XXI National Commission for over a decade. He is a member of the Lusophone Association for Environmental Education and of the Portuguese Sociological Association, where, since 2018, he has been part of the coordination team of the Environment and Society Section.
