Diogo Guedes Vidal

Diogo Guedes Vidal is a Portuguese environmental and health sociologist (1993) combining ecology and environmental health in sociological knowledge. Holds a degree in Sociology (2014), Master's in Sociology from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, Portugal (2016) and PhD in Ecology and Environmental Health (2022). He has been a research fellow in several projects funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, I.P.), the main Portuguese public funding agency, in the area of public and environmental health, environmental sociology, and sustainability. He started his scientific activity during his master's degree in sociology (2014-2016), working on a funded project in the application of surveys and interview reviews. Between 2016 and 2017, he was a sociologist at a market research company, and between 2017 and 2019, he was a research fellow in several projects funded by FP-ENAS, an interdisciplinary research unit in environmental energy and health at the University Fernando Pessoa. Between 2017 and 2022 he was a Ph.D. research fellow with a project funded by FCT, I.P. to be developed at the FP-ENAS in the University Fernando Pessoa, Porto, Portugal, focused on understanding the socioecology of public urban green spaces where he combined innovative and transdisciplinary techniques, applying checklists, questionnaire surveys, cluster analysis, and behavioral mapping of these spaces users. Currently, he is Invited Assistant Researcher at the EU project "PHOENIX: The rise of citizens voices for a greener Europe¿ at the Centre for Functional Ecology - Science for People & the Planet, University of Coimbra, Portugal. His research outputs are diverse and characterized by a transdisciplinary profile, namely in the field of sustainability, urban and human ecology, and social and environmental inequalities. All these studies topics came from his main study area which is the Society and Nature relations and dynamics, namely the social representation of Nature, its understandings, meanings, and symbols. He was editor of an international Springer book on cross-cutting themes in energy, environment, and health, guest editor of the international journal Frontiers in Sustainable Cities (Frontiers), Urban Science (MDPI), and at Frontiers in Environmental Science (Frontiers).
