João Guerra holds a PhD in Ciências Sociais from ICS-ULisboa where he currently lectures in the PhD program on Alterações Climáticas e Políticas de Desenvolvimento Sustentável. In the same institution, he is an assistant researcher and as such, member of GI ATS - Grupo de Investigação de Ambiente, Território e Sociedade.
Since 1998, João guerra has been developing several research projects focused on environmental issues and their interactions with society, analysing the social phenomenons that come out or that are influenced by environmental issues. In the academic year 2018 he was a foreign guest professor in the post-graduation program in Sociologia politica of Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, florianópolis, Brazil. Outside the academy he is also a member of Comissão Nacional do ECO XXI (ABAE-FEE), a project that annually assesses sustainability characteristics and practices among Portuguese towns.
